  Financial Investment Management Company in New Jersey


The client, an investment management company, with more than $36billion in their Assets Under Management (AUM) was facing immense difficulty in coordinating their day to day operation and reporting needs. This is due to the fact that the Data Warehouse that they thought to be was not a Data Warehouse but a monolithic monster of a database running Oracle database with more than 3000 tables and no integration across its diverse portfolio of data. This huge disparity and unknown combination of problems and issues culminated in long work hours and unreasonable demands from the management which deliberated night time and weekend work that resulted in employee attrition and dissatisfaction.

Their Result

The consulting company responsible for this fiasco was finding excuses to support their existence in the company as a vendor. The client company upon recommendation from outside third-party assessment concluded that they had to revamp their current environment or faces devalue in the face of fierce competition within their industry.


Bold Move: The client contacted AVS and others to do the RFP after a month-long assessment of their current environment and AVS took this challenge and came up with a solid proposal and design methodology that steered AVS in winning the contract.

Hard Work:  Having prior extensive background with Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence, AVS had clear cut vision on their next steps and began their plan on their SDLC process that involved assessment and business requirement phase, architecting a better solution in extracting data from disparate sources and huge list of market vendor data, selection of appropriate tools (Oracle, IBM (previously Ascential) Datastage, Business objects), design, development, deployment, documentation, training and post-production support. 

The Contract: Client management was totally bowled over with the rich capabilities that we presented in our initial meetings that AVS got contractual go-ahead to deliver the project as part of a 2-year phased-wised iterative implementation. We were also requested by the client to support the day-to-day operation and reporting needs as there were heavy employee attrition and the consulting company engaged previously was no longer there as they were asked to leave.   

The Result: The new Data Warehouse coined DW-2 was delivered on time and under budget. The application performed flawlessly and there was no more long hours, no firefighting, no more weekends and no more employee attrition!

The Relationship: To this day, AVS maintains a strong client-vendor bond with this company and has enjoyed immense growth.
